dc.description.abstractPlatelet-rich plasma (PRP) is known to stimulate skin wound healing. In this study, we investigated whether long-term delivery of growth factors contained in PRP enhances skin regeneration as compared to short-term delivery. Heparin-conjugated poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide) nanospheres (HCPNs) were used as a vehicle for long-term delivery of growth factors contained in PRP. Fibrin gel, HCPN-loaded fibrin gel, PRP-loaded fibrin gel, and PRP-loaded HCPNs suspended in fibrin gel were implanted to full thickness skin defects of mice. The wound area was significantly reduced in group of PRP-loaded HCPNs suspended in fibrin gel compared to the other groups. Suprabasal cytokeratin differentiation in squamous neoepithelium was greatest in group of PRP-loaded HCPNs suspended in fibrin gel. This study demonstrates that a long-term delivery of growth factors contained in PRP enhances skin wound healing and neovascularization in neodermis.-
