Abstract
The widely use of the radio frequency identification (RFID) in the world requires an efficient system performance. In particular, the baseband decoder in the RFID receiver plays a significant role and determines most of the system performance. In practice, the existence of the unpredictable distortion and frequency deviation in the return link leads to an important challenge in the decoder design. In this paper, an improved symbol detection algorithm which selects the symbol sample representing the symbol value in the symbol duration is proposed to solve the problem of asynchronous symbols caused by the distortion and the frequency deviation. The relative structure of the baseband decoder is also presented. The simulation results show significant performance improvements in bit-error rate (BER) compared with the conventional decoder using zero crossing method or correlator method.
