Abstract

With the rapid development of communication technologies in recent years, mobile Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is considered as a promising service which enables that the users to request and play the desired multimedia contents as they want. In IPTV multicasting methods, one of the major challenges is how to reduce a viewer’s waiting time for channel changing. In order to solve this problem, many methods have been proposed. In this thesis, we propose Cross-Layer Optimization and System Architecture of Multicast Broadcast Service (MBS) over broadband wireless access network (i.e. WiMAX, IEEE standard 802.16e). The proposed method reduces the channel change response time efficiently as viewers watch IPTV channels without join process when those are shared. Computer simulation shows that the channel change response time is reduced to 50~590ms compared to the existing MBS.
