dc.description.abstract | H. jonesi Uyeno & Nagasawa, 2010; H. kabatai Uyeno & Nagasawa, 2010; H. zanpa Uyeno & Nagasawa, 2010; H. mongarah Uyeno & Nagasawa, 2010; H. nakamurai Uyeno & Nagasawa, 2010; H. pseudobalistesi Uyeno & Nagasawa, 2010; The genus Hatschekia Poche, 1902 are gill parasites of actinopterygian fishes which belonging to eight orders: Anguilliformes, Aulopiformes, Beryciformes, Ophidiiformes, Perciformes, Pleuronectiformes, Scorpaeniformes, and Tetraodontiformes. The majority of hosts reside in tropical and subtropical regions. Eight species of the copepod genus Hatschekia Poche, 1902 (Siphonostomatoida: Hatschekiidae) were described from the gill filaments of seven perciform fishes hosts collected in New Caledonia: Hatschekia sp. nov. 1 from Epinephelus maculatus (Bloch, 1790), Hatschekia sp. nov. 2 and H. sp. nov. 3 from Epinephelus cyanopodus (Richardson, 1846), Hatschekia sp. nov. 4 from Variola louti (Forssk?l, 1775), Hatschekia sp. nov. 5 from Gymnocranius euanus (G?nther, 1879), Hatschekia sp. nov. 6 from Etelis carbunculus (Cuvier, 1828), Hatschekia sp. nov. 7 from Epinephelus fuscoguttatus (Forssk?l, 1775), and Hatschekia sp. nov. 8 from Macolor niger (Forssk?l, 1775). Hatschekia sp. nov. 1 and H. sp. nov. 2 and H. cernae Goggio, 1905 are unique in the presence of posterior lobes on the trunk. All other 111 congeners lack these lobes. Hatschekia sp. nov. 3 and H. sp. nov. 7 are related to H. cadenati Nu?es-Ruivo, 1954. However, Hatschekia sp. nov. 7 has very long setae on legs 1 and 2. Hatschekia sp. nov. 4 is closely related to H. conifera Yamaguti, 1939 because of the shared presence of the cornuted processes on the posterior trunk and to H. becuni Jones & Cabral, 1990 because of the exopod of leg 2. Hatschekia sp. nov. 5 shares the terminal claw and one basal small seta or the antenna with 11 species: H. hemicyclium Uyeno & Nagasawa, 2010; H. iridescens Wilson C.B., 1913; H. legouli Nu?es-Ruivo, 1954; H. monacanthi Yamaguti, 1939; H. sphyraeni Pillai, 1964 (long seta). Hatschekia sp. nov. 6 has a very long trunk, and has similar body length as H. atagonel Jones, 1985, H. conifera Yamaguti, 1939, H. crenata Hewitt, 1969, H. hippoglossi (Cuvier, 1830), H. ovalis (Bassett-Smith, 1898), and H. tenuis (Heller, 1865). Hatschekia sp. nov. 8 shares the nodules on the posterior margin of the trunk with H. nodosa Ho & Kim, 2001. A key to the 30 Hatschekia species reported from SW Pacific Ocean is provided. | - |
