dc.description.abstractA hybrid material based on Pt nanoparticles and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was fabricated with the assistance of Polyethyleneimine (PEI). The PEI functionalization provided high density and homogeneous functional groups on the MCWNTs’ sidewalls for binding Pt nanoparticles. PEI functionalization of MWCNTs is used as a means to facilitate the uniform deposition of Pt on the MWCNTs surface. Pt nanoparticles were uniformly deposited on MWCNTs support with Pt loading of 10 – 30 wt%. Pt/MWCNTs are compared with Pt supported on Carbon black (CB) by characterizing their chemical and electrochemical properties. Variety Pt loadings were in situ deposited on the surface of MWCNTs, as confirmed by a scanning electron microcopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The electrochemical surface area of Pt/MWCNTs and Pt/CBs were measured by cyclic voltammetry.-
