스포츠 스타의 자서전에 나타나는 주제 연구

Abstract

스포츠 스타는 대중의 주요 관심 대상으로 떠오르면서 스포츠 산업을 이끌고 가는 중요한 한 축으로 부상하였다. 스포츠 스타의 일거수일투족이 뉴스에 보도되기도 하고, 여러 광고에 모델로서 등장하면서 모델 선호도 수위를 점하고 있다. 걸출한 스포츠 스타의 존재는 해당 종목의 저변 확대와 규모 성장에 큰 원동력이 될 정도로 그 영향력이 커졌다. 스포츠 스타는 팬들의 호응에 보답하고, 대중의 관심 속에 지속적으로 머무르기 위해 적극적으로 대중과 소통해야 할 필요성이 있다. 스포츠 스타가 자신이 하고 싶은 이야기를 전달하면서 팬들의 성원에 보답하는 방법 중 하나가 자서전 출간이다. 이 연구는 한국 스포츠 스타의 자서전 발간 현황을 알아보고, 스포츠 스타의 자서전에 나타난 특징적인 주제를 탐구하고 해석하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 스포츠 스타는 신체를 이용한 기량을 통해 주목을 받는 만큼, 신체적 기량이 절정을 이루는 비교적 어린 나이에 자서전을 출간하는 특징이 나타났다. 이 연구에서는 각 스포츠 종목을 대표하는 이미지를 지니고 있는 현정화, 선동열, 박찬호, 박지성, 김연아 선수의 자서전을 연구 대상으로 선정하여 그 내용을 분석하였다. 스포츠 스타의 자서전에 나타나는 대표적인 주제를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 자신의 종목에 몰입하여 무한 반복의 노력을 기울이는 자기와의 싸움, 한계에 도전하는 신체에 대한 내용이다. 둘째, 스포츠 스타답게 자신의 성취 내용을 자세히 전달하면서 탁월성을 과시하고, 라이벌에 대한 경쟁의식을 드러내는 주제이다. 셋째, 국가를 대표해서 국제 경기에 나서는 영광과 부담감에 대한 주제이다. 넷째, 화려한 성취 뒤에 가려져 있었던 모습, 부상으로 고통 받고 정신적으로 약해지는 스포츠 스타들의 고난에 대한 주제이다. 다섯째, 서툰 연애 경험담과 떨리는 결혼 뒷얘기 등으로 스포츠 스타의 인간미를 드러내는 주제이다. 여섯째는 학교 성적이나 시시콜콜한 일상 이야기 등으로 평범함을 드러내는 주제이다. 스포츠 스타들은 그들의 자서전에서 자신들의 비범함을 제시하여 주목성과 상품성을 얻고, 동시에 일반인들과 크게 다르지 않은 평범한 모습 역시 드러내어 대중과의 거리 좁히기를 시도하였다. 스포츠 스타의 소통 욕구와 팬들의 적극적 관심 표현이 서로 만나게 되는 매개체로서의 자서전의 가치에 주목하고, 이에 대한 연구가 앞으로 더 진행되기를 기대한다.| Sport stars have now become one of the major interests of the public, and they are one of the main elements that make sport industry more prosperous. Sport Stars need to make a opportunity to exposure themselves to the public, so they often use social network service or appear as a guest on the popular TV talk show. To publish an autobiography is another option for the stars who want to share their story with fans. Sport stars’ fame is based on highly developed athletic skills and abilities, so they often reach their peak at the early stage of life. Therefore, sport star autobiographies tend to be published at more early stage of their careers. The purpose of this study is to identify significant themes from sport stars’ autobiographies. 6 autobiographies from 5 sport stars were used in this research. Selected Sport stars include Hyun Jung-Hwa, Sun Dong-Yeol, Park Chan-Ho, Park Ji-Sung and Kim Yu-na. Through this study, 6 major themes were found. The First one is theme of ‘ceaseless effort and the body overcome its limit.’ Second, ‘showing sport star’s outstanding achievement and their strong sense of rivalry’ theme. The third theme is the honor and high pressure from being a member of national team. These three themes could make their autobiographies more valuable and attract people to read. Fourth, intense pain from injury and physical ailment theme. Fifth, sport stars’ love affair and behind story of their marriage theme. Sixth and the last, ‘We are just ordinary people’ theme. These last three themes, sport Stars reveal their private life such as love affair and their school record.
