Abstract
In this thesis, a design of MIMO antenna for LTE mobile application is proposed. A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system is essential to support a Long-term Evolution (LTE) service, which is an emerging wireless communication standard that provides high-speed mobile communication. In MIMO antenna design, especially in an electrically small environment (e.g. the mobile application), broadband characteristics, miniaturization, and high isolation are key factors. The proposed MIMO antenna consists of two radiating elements and a RF Choke (RFC) which is located in between the two radiating elements. To improve the isolation between the two radiating elements of MIMO antenna, the RF signal is suppressed at the desired frequency band by utilizing a RFC. The measured results show that the proposed antenna can cover LTE band 13 from 746 MHz to 787 MHz and isolation is higher than 20 dB at the center frequency, simultaneously. The measured peak gain and efficiency of the two elements at the operating frequency were -1.5 dBi and 30.5 %, respectively. The ECC of the two antennas is maintained below 0.4 and the measured MEG ratio was less than 1.1 dB over the whole LTE band 13. The proposed antenna can be a good candidate for future wireless applications such as a mobile handset, smart phone, etc.
