Abstract A Study on Cause Analysis And Improvement Method for Industrial Accident in the Plant Construction Project Lee, Dae-Seong Directed by Prof. Kim, Jae-Jun Department of Construction Management, Master of Graduate School of Engineering Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea According to the report of recent 5 years industrial safety accident statistics, we found that the number of construction projects and employees are decreasing, but the number of the injured and incident rates are increasing. This shows that a lot of preventative actions and safety management actions controlled by the government and local companies to decrease industrial accidents are not so effective. So, in the study, among construction projects, I analysed accident cases happened in the plant construction projects which were more vulnerable to industrial accidents, and detected underlying problems to provide improvement method. By analysing accident cases, I highlighted importance of field supervisor and engineer’s roles and responsibilities for safety management, information sharing system towards dangerous situation to spread and recognize the information to relevant employees and job allocation by training skill evaluation technique which was reinforced into general safety training method. And it was suggested that continuous monitoring system towards critical and dangerous works was to be established, and in case of observing any nonconformance cases, by adopting the immediate confrontation measures, industrial accidents had to be prevented. In addition to that, for dangerous situation in the project, attracting everyone’s attention from employees to top management as well as safety staff, it was required that joint cooperation and efforts at level of Total Safety Management were essential. By reflecting these improvement methods to prevent industrial accident into the plant construction project, Total Safety Management System was to be securely constructed to induce autonomous safety management actions, to settle safety culture in plant construction area and to prevent industrial accidents. I wish the result of this study is to be used as safety data for preventing industrial accidents during performing works or operations related to safety management.
