- 가야금 창작음악은 60년대에 들어서 서양음악형식으로 작곡된 황병기의 <숲>을 시작으로 여러 작곡가들에 의해 점점 활성화되었다. 다양한 주법과 음역의 확대가 필요하게 되면서 80년대에 들어와서는 17현금, 18현금, 21현금, 25현금 등이 개량되었다.
