Abstract
Abstract Biomonitoring of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in various shark species Hyun-Kyung Lee Department of Marine Sciences and Convergent Technology The Graduate School Hanyang University Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are ubiquitous contaminants in marine environment, due to high persistence and biomagnifications in food web. Oceanic sharks are predatory fish with long life-span in marine ecosystem. In this study, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were measured in the muscle of 13 shark species collected from offshore (Pacific and Indian Oceans) and Korean coastal waters in 2010, to investigate species-specific bioaccumulation status and the possibility as biomonitoring species for POPs contamination in marine ecosystem. The total concentrations of PCBs, OCPs and PBDEs in all shark samples ranged from
