Abstract
In injection molding, to produce good quality injection molding products, diverse process variables should be considered such as the number and locations of gates, the arrangement and shapes of runners, and the arrangement and shapes of cooling channels. In this research, a methodology named Advances Cooling Circuit Wizard (ACCW) was developed that enables modeling of cooling channels while considering product shapes and runner arrangement. The ACCW has a characteristic that cooling channels are automatically modeled while avoiding runners and enables automatic arrangements of cooling channels considering product shapes so that products’ temperature deviation can be minimized. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the method was applied to three models which are injection molding products; first, a doortrim model that are to be attached to the automobile doors, second, a printer lower frame model, and third, a flat plate model. Injection molding analyses were conducted after developing codes consisting of logics using Moldflow 2015 and Matlab 2015 that are commercial injection molding analysis programs. In particular, the performance of the Cooling Circuit Wizard provided in Moldflow and that of the ACCW in avoiding interference between runners and cooling channels were compared with each other. According to the results, whereas the Cooling Circuit Wizard could not be used in actual models because interference occurred between runners and cooling channels when the Cooling Circuit Wizard was used, cooling channels that could be conveniently used even by users who were conducting cooling analysis for the first time while avoiding interference with runners could be generated when the Advances Cooling Circuit Wizard was applied. In addition, the Advances Cooling Circuit Wizard that supports process variables in various methods enables reducing the time to generate usable cooling channels of injection molding analysis programs by using functions for user convenience.
