Abstract
It will be favorable to feed large AC machines by multiple inverters. Such machines are called as multiplex 3-phase motors. Thereinto, motors driven by 2 independent inverters are regarded as duplex 3-phase motors, and triplex 3-phase motors driven by 3 inverters. This paper presents the performance of PM synchronous machines with duplex and triplex 3-phase winding, with each winding driven by an independent inverter. In this paper, the characteristics of motors were improved by applying multiplex winding. The feasible pole/slot combination for multiplex 3-phase motors and the corresponding phase different were proposed in this paper, firstly. And the best phase difference for particular pole/slot combination was analyzed in the respect of harmonic MMF due to stator current and torque components. Then efficiency, voltage and current characteristics were compared and the electrical characteristics of multiplex 3-phase motors were proved to be prior to conventional 3-phase motors through finite element analysis (FEA). After that the vibration characteristic of multiplex 3-phase motors was improved as well. Finally, the reliability of multiplex 3-phase motors when fault occurs was improved.
