Abstract
With a research question that mobile network infrastructure companies with different market share and growth rate will take different strategies in expanding/reinforcing the business, this study was conducted to verify the validity of the research hypothesis that Ericsson will expand its markets and diversify the technology to overcome stagnant growth, and that Huawei, on the other hand, will focus more on the existing market to gain momentum of it growth. After measuring as follows indices; Overlap, Hirschman-Herfindahl Index, Originality, and Generality for group of acquired companies of Ericsson and Huawei respectively, comparison/examination between the groups were conducted. The acquired companies of Ericsson had less concentration on patent technology than that of Huawei’s, indicating that Ericsson is more aggressive in diversifying its business and technology. Also, the patent originality index was higher in the acquired companies of Ericsson, meaning that patents of these companies cover wider range of technological fields. Furthermore, patent generality index was also higher in the acquired companies of Ericsson than that of Huawei’s, implying that Ericsson’s acquired companies possess patents based on more diverse technologies.
