Abstract
Carbon materials, such as graphene, activate carbon, carbon paper and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite, have been used as support of various catalyst. But the only a few of research was conducted to investigate the property as a substrate of expanded graphite. Herein, we use cost-effective carbon material, expanded graphite (EG), as a substrate of MoS2, the most expected catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction. An amorphous MoS2 grown on EG catalysts was synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method. Electrochemical property of synthesized MoS2/EG composite was analyzed to investigate the electrocatalyst property for HER performance. HER property of samples are varied with different molar ratio of MoS2/EG composite (Mo:C). Among the samples, most highest catalytic property was tafel slope with ~46mV/dec. It is outstanding property as a not fully exoliated graphite. Regarding the producibility and the cost of EG, it could be a important role in industrial catalytst application in near future. And to further enhance the catalytic property, MoS2 was doped with nitrogen. The doping content was investigated by using XPS, in the result about 4% nitrogen doped on MoS2. Electrocatalytic property of N-doped MoS2/EG catalyst composite was observed to compare with MoS2/EG composite.
