Abstract
In recent years, the wireless communication industry has experienced a fast growth. The design of wireless communication systems is greatly affected by the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), since a high PAPR decreases the efficiency of the power amplifier. In the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) system, the single carrier-frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) [1] is implemented as the uplink access technology due to its lower PAPR. At the SC-FDMA transmitter, PAPR is affected by modulation and pulse shaping (PS) schemes. Especially, PS is an effective and simple method compared to other PAPR reduction techniques. Among the existing PS filters, the filter with a piece-wise frequency characteristic composed of six non-zero linear segments has a better PAPR reduction than other proposed filters. In this thesis, improved Nyquist PS filters with frequency characteristics composed of eight non-zero linear segments and ten non-zero linear segments are proposed to further reduce the PAPR for the Interleaved SC-FDMA (SC-IFDMA) uplink system. The simulation results show that the PAPR of the proposed filters provided better performances compared to that of the other existing filters in the SC-IFDMA system.
