Abstract
Background: Laser lipolysis is a recently accepted treatment modality for the removal of unwanted fatty tissue and body sculpting with less down time and fewer sequelae. A wide variety of wavelengths have been used to improve clinical results and minimize patients’ discomfort. However, a 1,927 nm laser that shows greater fat and water absorption than previous wavelengths such as 1,440nm was not attempted before. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of the new 1,927 nm diode laser (Xlender® laser, Wontech Corporation, Daejon, South Korea) in laser lipolysis and body contouring of the lower abdomen. Methods: Twenty consecutive participants were enrolled and underwent one or two laser session(s) on a 10x10 cm2 of each right and left lower abdomen with the 1,927 nm diode laser. Laser irradiation was only taken place on the right side and the other procedures were completely same. Patients were followed at 12 and 24 weeks after treatment. Photographic documentation was obtained and abdominal circumference and skin elasticity were measured. Adverse events were also checked at every visit. Results: Most patients showed significant clinical improvement. The abdominal circumference and skin elasticity in the treatment area revealed significant change and patients described satisfactory results. The right sides showed better results compared to left side. There was no serious adverse event. Conclusions: The 1,927 nm diode laser could be considered as one of the effective and safe methods for laser lipolysis of the lower abdomen. Further investigations with more patients and comparison with other devices are needed to verify our results.
