- Abstract
- A building circulation is one of the crucial design factors associated with spatial planning even in the early design phase and the analysis of building circulation has a significant impact on the overall quality of building design. This paper aims to develop an evaluation framework for analysis of building circulation in BIM environment. The evaluation framework emphasizes quantitative, explicit approach by using Indoor Walkability Index (IWI) that is defined as a score to measure indoor circulation performance including following factors; distance, simplicity, accessibility and pedestrian-friendly circulation environment. In order to identify its applicability and feasibility, actual building models of remodeling projects is taken as the test model and quantitative analysis in the given models are demonstrated for design review in early design phase. In addition, directions for further improvement of the framework are also discussed as future works.
