1910년대 이전의 아동 위상 제고提高 활동

Abstract

우리나라에서 아동의 지위는 매우 낮았다가 1920년대 방정환을 중심으로 한 천도교 소년회 등의 활동으로 아동의 지위가 높아졌다고 알려져 있다. 하지만 1910년 이전 집중된 기독교계의 출판활동이 아동의 가치와 위상을 높이는 데 일정한 기여를 하였다는 것을 이 논문을 통해 밝혔다. 1900년에서 1910년대 초반 사이에 ≪그리스도신문≫, ≪가뎡잡지≫ 등의 정기간행물이 나오고, ≪ᄋᆞ모권면≫, ≪태모위생≫, ≪영ᄋᆞ양육론≫ 등의 단행본이 집중적으로 출간되었다. 이들 출판물은 태교를 강조하여 성별과 무관하게 아이의 가치를 인정하는 분위기를 유도하였고, 아이의 위생과 영양에 관한 과학적 지식을 전파하여 아동이 처한 환경을 개선하는 데 기여하였다. 이들 출판물이 전국에 퍼지고, 그 내용이 실제 유아대회로까지 이어지는 것도 함께 밝혔다. 이런 활동을 통해 아동의 생존권, 보호권 등의 권리 제고를 이루게 되었고, 이것이 기저가 되어 1920년대 어린이 운동으로 이어졌던 것이다. A general consensus upon a drastic sublimation of a social status of children in Korea has focused on Bang Jeong-hwan and his engaged movements such as Cheondogyo-Sonyeonhoe around 1920s. Against the perspective, this article attunes to publication stands in christianity prior to 1910s, which had devoted to promote a social status of children; for example, from 1900s to an earlier period of 1910 had news papers Geuriseudosinmun, journal Gadyeongjapji, and books such as Amogwonmyeon, Taemowisaeng, Yeongtwiyangyungnon become to be published. All these editions did not only pay much attention to a prenatal education, but proposed the same worth of children regardless sex conducive to an indiscriminate opportunity for education to male and female as well as to a social proliferation of a scientific knowledge about children’s hygiene and nutrition. As a result, all those trials improved an overall environment for children. Behind this success did a nation-wide proliferation of the editions and their related social activities lie. Therefore, the movement in 1920s related with the status of children was in line with that in 1910s.
