- 본 논문은 시어도어 드라이저(Theodore Dreiser)의 『시스터 캐리』(Sister Carrie, 1900)에 나타난 도시의 소비환경이 어떻게 캐리(Carrie)의 물질적 욕망을 만들고 확장시켜서 도시가 보여준 세속적 성공만을 인생의 목표로 삼도록 교육을 시켰는지 그리고 그것으로 인해 캐리의 삶은 어떻게 변화되는지 살펴봄으로서 인간에 대한 도시의 영향력에 대해 고찰해보는 것이다.
