Abstract
Accelerated corrosion tests of reinforcing steel in mortar containing chlorides were conducted using a lithium nitrite corrosion inhibitor focusing on the nitrite-chloride ion molar ratio (NO2-/Cl-) as a test parameter. Lithium nitrite's corrosion-inhibiting effect was non-destructively monitored by embedding a corrosion sensor in each specimen. The result of this study came out that the minimum effective dosage of lithium nitrite is 0.6 in terms of NO2-/Cl-; sensor corrosion occurs when the ratio of the measured sensor resistance (R) to the initial sensor resistance (R-0) increases from 2 to 4; and the onset time and degree of corrosion in reinforcement bar can be non-destructively monitored by measuring the resistance (R) using the sensor for the correlation between R/R-0 and the percentage of the corrosion area (A(cor)).
