Abstract
Global distribution of power generation fuel is a very important logistics area that forms the basis of the national power infrastructure industry. Therefore, in order to secure the cost competitiveness of the power generation company while maintaining the stable electric power of the nation, it is required to establish an optimal management plan that minimizes the cost of importing bituminous coal which is one of the largest source of energy for the generation of electricity. This study defines cost factors and constraints necessary for annual management plan for the importation of bituminous coal. Based on this, we have established an mathematical model that minimizes logistics costs while satisfying energy demand for electric power. This logistics optimization model established by the integer programming method was used to derive the optimum amount of bituminous coal imported, and the number of ships for each type by the size to be needed for each period of time for the electric power industry. Our model suggested a method to reduce the cost of importing bitumious coal, transportation cost, and inventory cost by 4% point, 34% point, 4% point, respectively, compared with the current cost.
