Abstract
A phase shifter using an artificial magneto-dielectric substrate for array antenna is proposed. The miniaturization was achieved using an artificial magneto-dielectric (AMD) realized by a split ring resonator (SRR). By using an AMD on a T-junction power divider, a phase shift was designed to operate over the Mobile-WiMAX band (2.3 GHz ∼ 2.4 GHz). The proposed AMD is compact in size and yields low insertion loss. The designed phase shifter has a return loss of higher than 10dB and transmission coefficient of less than 7dB from 1.8GHz to 2.4GHz. The array antenna with the proposed phase shifter has a beam-tilting capability of 10 degree at 2.4 GHz.
