Abstract
A high-manganese steel was processed by high-pressure torsion for up to 10 turns under a pressure of 6.0 GPa. The results show the development of a reasonably homogeneous structure with a peak hardness of Hv ≈ 450. There is extensive twinning in the early stages of deformation. An analysis of the evolution of strength with imposed strain suggests that strain hardening due to twinning is exhausted in the early stages of processing.
