Abstract
Artificial photosynthesis is a very important subject, not only from a scientific viewpoint, but also for its possible contribution to sustainable utilization of energy resources. Artificial photosynthesis converts solar energy into an electrochemical potential or chemical energy. Dendrimers are a unique class of macromolecules with uniform branching repeat unit due to their monodispersity in size, three dimensional structure, and various functionalize. Dendrimers have been suggested as a potential scaffold for efficient artificial light harvesting antenna because of their well-defined three dimensional structures, which makes it easy to introduce many light-absorbing units in the branches of dendritic architecture. In a dendritic antenna, the peripheral donor units collect photons and transfer the excitation energy through space to the core. Light harvesting dendrimers can be tailored to construct molecular photonic devices as well as artificial photosynthetic systems.
