Abstract
In this study, a multidisciplinary design optimization is conducted to a Staggered pin-fin radial heat sink which is a passive cooling system for LED down light. A numerical analysis model considering a natural convection and a radiation heat transfer is suggested. Design variables are determined with screening method and an evolution algorithm is used for optimizing heat sink geometry. The performance of the Staggered pin-fin radial heat sink is compared with an existing In-line pin-fin radial heat sink by making the Pareto fronts that are results of optimization. Consequently, the design succeeded in decreasing the mass by 15% without changing of the heat sink thermal resistance.
