dc.description.abstractRecently, the active researches have been made in Air-side economizer for saving HVAC energy. In spite of this advantage, however, outdoor air quality is getting worse due to industrialization. It has a direct impact on occupants’ health in building when Air-side economizer operates. Therefore, this study suggested an operation of Air-side economizer method which differs depending on outdoor air quality. The effects of indoor air quality improvement was verified by the simulation study using Open studio, Energy Plus and Excel programs. This study used Air Quality Index defined by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as an indicator for judging outdoor air quality. As a result, in view of Korea PM2.5 standard (average 24 PM2.5 50㎍/㎥), PM2.5 standard overtime deceased from 432 hours to 373 hours (reduced 13.49%) and annual average PM2.5 concentration decreased from 20.4 ㎍/㎥ to 19.7 ㎍/㎥ (reduced 3.43%) when variable air volume (VAV) system with MERV 9 was applied. By contrast, there was 0.78% increase in annual Chiller, Pumps and Fan energy consumptionen_US
