The proposed algorithm aims to enhance stereo images while preserving the important characteristics of the original image. The proposed stereoscopic image enhancement technique consists of four steps: singular value decomposition based on image analysis, image enhancement, noise reduction, and tone consistency. The method decomposes an image into its singular values, from which the luminance information can be obtained using singular value decomposition. A contrast adjustment is applied by changing the singular values with noise reduction. The proposed method then uses the weighting approximation to obtain identical luminance levels from the luminance inconsistencies in stereo images. In the final image composition process, the proposed algorithm combines the color and luminance components in order to preserve the color consistency. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves good subjective quality and preserves the image details. © 2015 IEEE.en_US
