캘리그래피 활용 매체의 조형적 표현 연구

Abstract

최근 캘리그래피는 조형예술, 디자인의 틀을 넘어영화, 영상, 문학 등과 적극적으로 결합하여 새로운미학적 이미지 영역으로 확대되고 있다. 이와 같이 다양한 분야에서 캘리그래피 디자인에 대한 관심이 증가되고 있는 것은 글자가 가지고 있는 전달 기능이우리의 눈에 익은 글씨체가 아니라 이제 예술 표현의기능으로서의 역할을 하게 되었음을 보여준다.

이에 본 연구는 캘리그래피가 나타나게 된 사회적,역사적 배경을 기초로 하여 캘리그래피의 개념과 조형적 특성을 알아보고 다양한 매체에서의 활용사례와분석을 통해 캘리그래피의 효과적이고 개성적인 시각ㆍ영상 표현으로서의 발전 방향을 제시하고자 한다.

문헌과 연구논문을 통해 이론적 배경이 되는 캘리그래피의 개념 및 표현 특징을 고찰하고, 매체에 따른활용사례를 분석하여 어떠한 조형성으로 나타나고 있는지를 알아보았다. 매체는 크게 인쇄매체와 영상매체로 구분하여 각 분야에서 사용되고 있는 새로운 독창성과 실험성이 돋보이는 캘리그래피의 표현 특성과조형적 요소를 분석하여 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 캘리그래피는 여러 분야에 두드러지게 나타나며 그 역할과 범위가 매우 다양하게 표현되고 있는 것을 알 수있었다.

분석결과 첫째, 형과 여백은 재현적 요소를 탈피하여 일정하지 않은 외곽선과 필력에 의한 연속성으로일회성을 가진다. 캘리그래피는 자연스러운 손의 동작에서 나오는 결과물로 쓰는 사람에 따라 조형미가 다르고, 전체적 이미지를 전달함에 매우 유용하며, 그이미지의 특성에 따라 자신만의 독특한 개성과 느낌을 전달하는데 많은 영향력을 가지고 있다.

둘째, 레이아웃을 보면 매체의 특성에 따라 다르게나타나며, 캘리그래피 위주의 중앙구성과 획일적인 디자인이 많다. 따라서 글자의 조형적 미를 최대한 살리고 타이포그래피적 측면을 충분히 고려해야 할 것이다.

셋째, 색채에 있어서 캘리그래피 표현의 색상은 다양하지 않고 검정색이 대부분이어서 좀 더 다양한 시도를 필요로 하고 있다. 앞으로 색채에 대한 지속적인연구와 개발을 통해 다양하게 적용시켜 가독성은 물론 독특한 개성으로 표현 되어져야 한다.;Calligraphy of today is expanding beyond formative art and design into a new aesthetic image domain by being actively combined with movie, video, literature and so on. The increasing interest in calligraphic design in a wide range of fields indicates that calligraphy is no longer limited as a communication tool via familiar fonts but now has an artistic expression function. This study, therefore, examines the concept and formative characteristics of calligraphy based on its social and historical background in which it first emerged and projects its future development as an effective, individualized visual and image expression through investigation and analysis of its applications in a variety of media. Through the literatures and study articles, we examined the concept and expressive characteristics of calligraphy. Also we investigated formative characteristics through analysis its applications of media. The media were divided into roughly print media and image media The expression characteristics and formative element of calligraphy which is applied with more creativity and experimentalism were studied by analysis. The results revealed that calligraphy is an important element in many areas and it has a variety of roles with a wide range of expression. From the results of analysis, we summarized as follows: First, the shapes and margins of calligraphy departed from reproductive characteristic and now had uniqueness with its irregular outlines and strokes. Since calligraphy is the result of natural hand movement, a calligraphic piece created by a different person has a different formative style, it can effectively be used in creating the overall image and it has high influencing power on conveying the unique personality and feeling through characteristic images. Second, the layout of calligraphy appears to be different depending on the characteristics of the media that carries it and there are many designs with calligraphy as a central structure or a uniform design element. Therefore, the formative aesthetics of letters must be maximized and typographic aspect must be considered. Third, calligraphic expressions are mostly in black, lacking diversity in colors and requiring varied attempts. Continuous research and development of calligraphy colors and their applications are necessary for improved readability as well as for expression with unique personality.
