Abstract
The most challenging part of producing hydrogen pressure vessels is reducing production costs. Because carbon fiber dominates the cost of pressure vessels, carbon fiber is expensive, but mixing steel wire with carbon fiber can increase volume fraction and reduce production costs. The steel wire can be recycled more easily. Nevertheless, the bond between the wire and the resin became a matter of discussion. In this work, the performance of steel and carbon fiber tanks is verified by finite element structural analysis, steel wire resin tensile test, fiber-steel wires hybrid winding process, and hydraulic burst test. Therefore, how to reduce the ost while ensuring the performance of the pressure vessel has become the primary goal. This paper provides the research content to ensure cost competitiveness through the correct design of the mixing and design of carbon fiber and steel wire and the testing of hydrogen pressure vessels.
