Abstract
This study was to prevent the growth of microorganisms attached to the fabric and establish an effective and rapid disinfection method. By pollution microorganisms artificially on eight types of fabrics, disinfecting power and degree of damage were evaluated by applying physical and chemical methods. To effectively use physical disinfection, immersion in boiling water for 1 min or more and 3 min or less is a method with high disinfection power and low damage. The chemical sterilization method used four types of disinfectants and 1 type of fiber deodorant. Among the disinfectants, 0.1% povidone-iodine and 100 ppm of chlorine peroxide show a disinfecting of 2 log CFU/ml, so it is not suitable for use as a disinfectant. When treated with 70% ethanol and 5% hydrogen peroxide, contaminated fabrics showed 99.99% of sterilizing power in all of the fabrics and showed a level of damage of 2~3 degrees, making them suitable for disinfecting fabrics. However, when applying 5% hydrogen peroxide to Cotton, there were 3~4 stages of damage, so 5% of hydrogen peroxide should not use for Cotton. Febreze showed a sterilizing power of 99.99% in all fabrics except Silk and Linen, and the damage level was low to 1 degree, so it should apply to other fabrics except Silk and Linen. It recommended using 70% ethanol or 5% hydrogen peroxide for the Silk and Linen products.
