Abstract
The present work introduces a test rig for wire mesh dampers to identify dynamic force coefficients. Presently, a rigid/short shaft and a test wire mesh damper, loaded dynamically by an electromagneic shaker, are submerged in cryogenic fluid (liquid nitrogen). Applied shaker load amplitude with various frequencies and ensuing deflection of a test wire mesh damper provide the complex mechanical impedance for identification of the system parameters, such as stiffness and damping coefficients, in the frequency domain. The measurements also estimates the energy dissipation characteristics of the test damper, for example, a loss factor and a friction coefficient.
