Abstract
A rotordynamic test rig is developed for simulating rotor-bearing systems of electric oxidizer pumps using hybrid fluid film bearings for application of reusable launch vehicles. The test rotor is designed to simulate the mass and gyroscopic properties of an inducer, an impeller, a electric motor, and a thrust disk of the electric oxidizer pump without expensive and complex rotating component hardware. The objective of building the test rig is to demonstrate stability of high speed electric pump, as well as to identify and quantify system level performance of hybrid fluid film bearings for operation of wide range of rotor speed and supply fluid pressure with various working fluids. A large automotive turbocharger drives the test rotor. The test rotor and a flexible coupling connects to the driving turbocharger. Various sensors and DAQ systems collect and save the test data of acceleration, displacement, temperature, and fluid pressure/flow rate for prediction of dynamic characteristics of the rotor system.
