Abstract
Russian Orthodox is the national religion of Russia. This paper examines the historical and ideological implications of Russian Orthodox, the national characteristics of Russia through the Moscow Third Roman Theory, the ethnic characteristics of Russian Orthodox in the Russian Period, and finally the Russian identity and Russian Orthodoxy in the Soviet Union and Post-Soviet Period. It consists of analyzing Russian orthodox religion. Russian Orthodoxy is the synthesis of the religious, cultural and spiritual world embedded in Russian history. Although the Korean church planted good gospel seeds in Russia, and Russians were evangelized and became Christians, the Russians still have a strong Orthodox identity. The sophistication of the Russians will be a barometer of Russian understanding, and in this sense, this paper will be an opportunity to reflect on the various concepts of religious identity of a single state. This paper was designed to attempt to emphasize the meaning of local social and cultural identity as an example of Russian orthodox, rather than presenting a new mission strategy related to Russian mission. Therefore, this paper consists of arguments to grasp the implications for Christian mission while considering religious identity in certain regions of Russia and Eurasia. In other words, there is an aspect that focuses on the Russian cultural perspective. Every nation has its own religious and cultural realm. Overall, this leads to cultural identity. Considering the missionary situation as a whole, it is considered that a mission approach that respects a specific culture is necessary. Russia is not a missionary area where missional contextualization is as strong as in Muslim areas. However, Russia is a country with a very strong national religion called Russian Orthodoxy, and in this respect Protestant missions in this area need to raise the need for an in-depth regional studies of Russian national, religious and cultural identities.
