축제연구 30년, 현황과 전망

Abstract

본 연구는 지난 30년간 관광학 안에서 축제에 대한 연구의 흐름을 살펴보고 현재 축제연구의 의미 고찰 및 향후 전망에 대한 연구이다. 관광학 분야 KCI 인용지수 상위 7개 저널에 1989년부터 2018년까지 30년간 게재된 482개의 논문을 대상으로 분석하였다. 내용분석 방법을 통해, 주제별, 연도별, 연구기여도 3가지의 관점에서 그 흐름과 동향을 살펴보았다. 연구주제 구분은 체계론적 관점을 인용해, 축제 참가자 개인에게 초점을 맞춘 ‘미시적 연구’, 사회조직으로서 축제관련 조직 및 특성에 대한 ‘중시적 연구’, 축제를 둘러싼 환경인 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화적 영향을 다룬 ‘거시적 연구’로 구분해서 살펴보았다. 연도별로는 ‘태동기(1989~1996)’, ‘도약기(1997~2004)’, ‘발전기(2005~2010)’, ‘성찰기(2011~현재)’의 네 시기로 구분하여 각 시대의 주요 특징과 의미를 살펴보았다. 연구기여도 측면에서는 각 논문을 후속 연구에서 인용한 횟수를 정리한 인용지수(IF) 개념을 활용해, 각 학술지별 연구기여도 및 개별 논문의 연구기여도를 살펴보고 의미를 분석하였다. 주요 쟁점으로는 ①축제의 관광화 및 국제화 ②동기, 체험, 만족 ③행동의도에서 실제행동으로 ④비참여자에 대한 연구 필요 ⑤평가에서 촉진(facilitator)으로 ⑥지역주민이 참여하는 여가문화로서의 축제 등 여섯 가지 쟁점을 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 우리나라 축제가 지속가능한 성장을 할 수 있는 단초를 제공하고, 축제참가자 및 모든 관계자가 함께 행복할 수 있는 여가문화로서의 축제로 자리 잡길 기대한다. This study examines the flow of tourism research on festivals during the past 30 years and discusses the implications and future prospects of festival research. We analyzed 482 papers published in the seven top-ranked journals in the KCI citation index in the field of tourism. Through content analysis, the flow and trends were examined from three perspectives: subject, year, and research contribution. The research topics were classified into “microscopic research” focusing on the festival participants, “medianscopic research” covering the organization and characteristics of the festival, and “macroscopic research” dealing with the political, economic, social, and cultural influences surrounding the festival. The main characteristics and meanings of each period were examined by dividing them into four periods: beginning (1989~1996), leaping (1997~2004), developing (2005~2010), and reflecting (2011~present). Citation index (IF), which summarizes the number of citations for each paper in subsequent studies, was used to examine the research contribution of each journal and the research contribution of individual articles. Six key issues were proposed: ① tourism and internationalization of festivals; ② motivation, experience, and satisfaction; ③ behavioral intentions and actual behavior; ④ research on non-participants; ⑤ evaluation and promotion; and ⑥ festivals as a leisure culture in which local residents participate. Through this study, we hope that Korea's festivals will be provided a foundation for sustainable growth where festival participants and all interested parties can be happy together.
