Abstract
An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the efficacy of soft dredged clayey ground by lateral plastic board drains(PBD). At first, laboratory test was performed to check factors affecting discharge capacity using large scale test apparatus with maximum drain length of 20m. Factors influencing the drainage performance of lateral PBD were investigated focussing on : flow characteristics of mixed water and air ; well resistance ; deformed shape of drain ; drain length. It was confirmed that the discharge capacity of PBD using these test is sufficient to improve the soft dredged ground with very high water content. Second, a field test has been carried to check the application of new devised and producted equipment for multi PBDs installation to horizontal direction. The devised equipment was made shape of disk and can install the three rows and three different depths of 0.5,1.5 and 2.5m by one time traveling of tractor with pontoon. The depth of improvement is 3m from the surface of ground. Test result shows new equipment can be apply for soft dredged clayey ground improvement by lateral plastic board drains(PBD).
