활자타이포와 디지털타이포에 관한 연구

Abstract

타이포그래픽 디자인계는 미디어그래픽, 시스템디자인, 컴퓨터그래픽 등등 그 외 여러 분야에 깊게 관여함으로써 이 새로운 전자회로 시대에 발 맞추어 나가고 있다. 산업혁명의 영향으로 디자인이라는 새로운 학문이 탄생하면서 그 의미도 현대적으로 바뀌었다. 이제는 디지털 타이포그래피라는 용어가 등장할 만큼 매스 커뮤니케이션의 한 방법으로 영역이 확대되고 있다. 최근의 현대 타이포그래피는 역으로 다시 전통적 타이포의 개념으로 돌아가려는 성향이 있는가 하면 전혀 새로운 개념의 실험적 타이포그래피의 독자적 영역을 구축해 나가고 있다. 본 논문에서는 활자타이포와 디지털 타이포의 대중성, 기능성, 효율성 그리고 가독성적인 측면을 비교, 분석하여 활자타이포가 효율성을 제외한 거의 모든 면에서 우위를 보임을 보여준다. 또한 각각의 차이점을 제시하여 주고 그에 따른 사례들을 나열함으로써 명확한 분석내용을 살펴 볼 수 있다. 일련의 과정들을 통하여 도출된 내용을 근거로 하여 가까운 미래의 웹타이포그래피의 발전 가능성은 더욱 더 진보할 것이란 것을 제시한다.

The typographic design industry is keeping path on the era of electronic circuits with the connection of various fields such as media graphic, system design, computer graphic, and so on. Due to the influence of the industrial revolution, Design was regarded as a new study and its meaning was renewed to modernize. Now, design has expanded its boundary as a mass communication method. Even a new terminology, digital typography has appeared. Recently the current typography trend shows the tendency to go back to the traditional typography on the contrary or set up unique ranges of experimental typography with new concepts. This study compares and analyzes popular appeal, function, efficiency, and readability views of print typography and digital typography to prove that print typography shows dominant aspects except efficiency rather than digital typography. In addition, it analyzes differences, demonstrates series of examples, and undergoes critial contents for the comparison. Finally this thesis concludes that the possibility of web typography advancement is optimistic on the basis of the deduction of covered explanation.
