Abstract
The optimum antithrombotic strategy before open heart surgery in patients with recently implanted coronary stents has not been clearly established because of lack of clinical evidence. This report describes a case of stent thrombosis in a patient who discontinued a P2Y(12) inhibitor (ticagrelor) for 3 days before coronary artery bypass grafting. The period of withdrawal of antiplatelet drugs before coronary artery bypass grafting should be minimized in patients with recently implanted drugeluting coronary stents to prevent stent thrombosis.
