일개 의과대학 의예과 학생의 대학생활 초기 어려움에 대한 질적 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 의예과 1학년 학생들을 대상으로 갓 의과대학에 입학하였을 때 어떠한 경험을 하며, 이때 학생들의인식은 어떠한지, 그것은 어떤 특성을 갖는지를 이해하고 그 의미를 심층적으로 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 서울소재 일개 의과대학 의예과 1학년에 재학 중인 여덟 명의 의예과 학생을 대상으로 면담을 실시한 후, 그 내용을질적 연구 방법을 통해 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 의예과 학생들의 개별 특성에 따라 대학생활에서 경험하는 어려움은다양한 차원으로 드러났으며 크게 학업, 인간관계, 진로에 대한 세 가지 차원으로 구분되었다. 또한 의예과 학생들은의과대학 입학 직후 학업 및 진로에서 낮은 동기부여, 만족감, 기대감 등이 혼재되는 양상을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 의사로서의 삶에 대한 기대와 포부를 느끼는 반면, 구체적인 진로 계획 속에서의 혼란과 두려움을 동시에가지는 것으로 나타났다. 이 같은 결과는 대학 입학 직후, 초기 성년기 시기에서 경험할 수 있는 비교적 긍정적인수준의 어려움이지만, 이러한 어려움이 초기에 포착되어 극복되지 못한다면 대학생활 전반에 부정적인 영향을 미칠수 있기에 대학 차원의 지원과 관리가 필요하다. 따라서 연구 결과를 바탕으로, 학생들의 어려움 극복을 위해 학생개별 특성에 맞춘 세부적인 지원과 학습 동기 고취를 위한 실질적인 방안 등을 제안하였다. The purpose of this study is to understand the difficulties experienced by pre-medical students in college life and explore the meaning in depth. After conducting in-depth interviews with seven first year pre-medical students attending A Medical College in Seoul, South Korea, the contents were analyzed through the qualitative case study method and reviewed according to methodological triangulation to secure the validity of the results. As a result of the study, the difficulties experienced in college life were revealed to be in diverse dimensions according to the individual characteristics of pre-medical students, and were largely divided into three dimensions: academic, human relations, and career dimensions. In addition, pre-medical students were shown to have low motivation, satisfaction, and expectation in their studies and career life immediately after entering medical college. Finally, they were shown to feel expectation and aspiration for their life as a doctor while being confused and afraid in concrete career planning. The results as such indicate relatively positive levels of difficulties that can be experienced during the early adulthood period of the early days after entering a college. However, such difficulties require support and management at the college level because they can have negative effects on the overall college life if not caught and overcome early. Therefore, based on the study findings, this study proposed support and practical measures to overcome the difficulties of students.
