귀국 대학생의 구직 경험에 대한 질적 사례 연구

Abstract

이 연구는 해외에 거주한 경험이 있는 귀국 대학생들의 구직 경험을 심층적으로 이해하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 한국에서 취업을 준비한 경험이 있는 다섯 명의 연구 참여자들을 대상으로 질적 사례 연구를 진행하였다. 연구 결과, 귀국 대학생들에게 구직 경험은 단순히 취업을 하는 것 그 이상의 의미를 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이들은 국제대학이라는 공간 내에서 생활하고 있기 때문에, 대학 생활의 적응에는 실제적으로 큰 어려움이 없었지만, 향후 국내에서 취업을 하는 것을 더 큰 적응과 융화의 문제로 인식하고 있었다. 이들의 취업 준비는 한국에서 살며 대학에 들어온 ‘일반학생’들과 자신들을 구분하고, 또 한국 사회에서 요구하는 다양한 스펙 요건들을 인식하고 준비하는 특성을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 귀국 학생들은 대학생활 그 자체에 어려움을 겪는다기보다, 구직 과정에서 보다 적극적인 한국 사회로의 적응이 필요하다는 것을 인식하고 심리적 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 귀국 대학생들의 구직 현실을 파악하고, 이들을 지원할 수 있는 발전적인 아이디어를 구성하는데 기여할 것으로 기대한다.

This study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of job search experiences of college students who have returned after living overseas. For such a purpose, this study is based on qualitative case studies regarding five research participants who have experience preparing for employment in Korea. As a result of this study, it was found that for returning college students, experiences of finding jobs meant more than merely getting employed. Returning students recognized that, while living within an international university area made adjusting to college life easier, future employment in Korea was a different matter that required more adaptation and integration. Therefore, their preparation for employment is characterized by their abilities to distinguish themselves from general students who have lived and studied in Korea, and to recognize and prepare for diverse job specifications required by the Korean society. This study is expected to contribute to understanding job search experiences of returning students and to developing ideas to support them.
