Abstract
The stability of steel in concrete structure is dependent on the chloride ions and pH level of pore solution surrounding the steel. The available techniques that can be used for corrosion monitoring are commercially developed. An electric resistance type corrosion sensor that is expected for practical performance in corrosive environments was developed by KOGAS. This sensor is used sense beforehand the existence of corrosion cause before steel is corroded. As results from laboratory tests in simulated solutions and mortar environments. one could confirm responses of the corrosion sensor against chloride attack or/and carbonation. The sensor can define critical values of chloride and pH level.
