Loewe의 <Erlkönig>와 Schubert의 <Erlkönig> 비교 연구

Abstract

시와 음악이 결합한 장르인 독일예술가곡(Lied)은 19세기 독일 낭만주의 음악의 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있다. 독일을 중심으로 시의 낭만운동이 18세기 말부터 절정을 이루기 시작하였고 이것에 영향을 받아 독일예술가곡이 발전하였다. 여러 낭만주의 문학가들 중 괴테(Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, 1749~1832)는 낭만시대의 예술작곡가들에게 선호의 대상이 되었다. 그의 작품은 예술작곡가들이 작곡하기에 좋은 운율체계로 되어 있을 뿐만 아니라 내용 또한 서정적이고 극적이기 때문에 여러 작곡가들이 그의 시를 가지고 독일예술가곡을 작곡하였다. 특히 그의 시 <Erlkonig>는 다수의 작곡가들에 의해 가곡화 되었다. 많은 작곡가들 중에서도 동시대 작곡가인 뢰베(Jonhann Carl Gottfried Loewe, 1796~1869)와 슈베르트 (Franz Peter Schubert, 1797~1828)가 괴테의 시 <Erlkonig>를 어떻게 음악적으로 표현하였는지 비교분석해 보는 것은 의미가 있다. 본 논문은 3부분으로 구성되어있다. 제 1장 서론에서는 독일예술가곡의 전반적인 배경과 연구목적을 밝혔다. 본 논문의 주요부분인 제 2장 본론에서는 괴테의 시 <Erlkonig>의 내용과 의미를 분석하였다. 또한 뢰베와 슈베르트의 음악적 특징을 살펴보고 이 두 작곡가가 괴테의 시<Erlkonig>의 문학적 요소를 어떻게 음악과 결부시켰는지 분석하여 비교 연구하였다. 마지막 장인 제 3장 결론에서는 뢰베의 <Erlkonig>와 슈베르트의 <Erlkonig>를 연구, 비교한 결과 얻게 된 음악적인 이해를 연주에 어떻게 반영할 수 있는지 알아보았다.; The German Lied, which is a combination of poem and music, is an important genre of the German Romantic music in the 19th Century. From the last quarter of the 18th Century Germany stood up as a center of the movement in the poetic Romanticism. Hence, the German Lied began to bloom. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749~1832) was the most popular poet in the composers of the German Lied. Especially Goethe's poem, <Erlkonig> was set into music by numerous composers. Many Romantic composers found the <Erlkonig> suitable for musical setting mainly because of its dramatic quality and rhythmic structure of phrases. Two contemporary composers, Jonhann Carl Gottfried Loewe (1796~1869) and Franz Peter Schubert (1797~1828), also set the <Erlkonig> to the music. It is interesting to compare how the two other composers internalized the poem in their own understandings and expressed it in the form of the German Lied. This thesis consists of 3 chapters. The first Chapter, the introduction, provides the overall historical background of the German Lied, and also the purpose of this research is stated. The second chapter, which is the main part of this thesis, presents the analysis of the poem and two songs by Loewe and Schubert, along with the comparison of two songs. The third chapter gives some musical insight to the songs as a result of the analysis and comparison of the songs by Loewe and Schubert specifically.
