C. Debussy의 「Estampes」에 나타난 민속음악적 요소

Abstract

19세기 후반의 음악사조는 민족주의, 후기낭만주의, 인상주의의 세가지로 요약될 수 있다. 당시의 작곡가들은 새로운 음악적 표현수단을 찾고자 하였는데 가장 혁신적인 인물은 프랑스의 작곡가 끌로드 드뷔시(Claude Achille Debussy)이다. 드뷔시는 인상주의 회화와 상징주의 시의 영향으로 음악에 있어서의 인상주의 양식을 창시하고 완성시켰다. 그는 인상주의적인 기법을 표현하기 위하여 민속음악적 요소를 그의 작품에 반영시켰는데 그의 피아노 작품 <판화「Estampes」>는 인도네시아 가믈란 음악과 스페인의 민속음악인 플라멩코의 요소들이 훌륭하게 녹아있는 곡이라 하겠다. <판화「Estampes」>는 총 3곡으로 구성되어 있는 모음집으로서 그는 1889년에 열린 파리 만국박람회에서 인도네시아의 가믈란 음악을 듣고 이에 매료되어 제 1곡 <탑「Pagodes」>을 작곡하였고, 제 2곡 <그라나다의 황혼「La Soiree dans Grenade」>은 스페인을 방문한 적이 없음에도 스페인을 표현한 가장 뛰어난 피아노곡으로 평가받는다. 제 3곡 <비오는 정원「Jardins Sous La Pluie」>은 프랑스의 동요를 소재로 하여 작곡된 곡으로 본 논문에서는 민속음악적 요소가 잘 나타난 제 1곡과 제 2곡을 고찰해 보았다. 곡의 분석에 앞서서 민속음악이란 무엇인지 동양과 서양의 민속음악의 일반적 특징을 알아보고 <판화「Estampes」>와 관련있는 가믈란 음악과 스페인의 민속음악에 대해 살펴보았다. 결론적으로 제 1곡 <탑「Pagodes」>은 가믈란 음악의 영향으로 보이는 5음음계를 기초로 하여 주제를 끊임없이 반복하고 변형하였으며 가믈란 음악의 악기를 묘사함으로써 동양적인 정취를 자아내었다. 제 2곡 <그라나다의 황혼「La Soiree dans Grenade」>은 스페인 민속음악의 주요특징인 하바네라 리듬을 곡 전체에 사용하여 통일감을 주었고 아라비아 음계, 온음음계, 여러 선법들과 기타 및 캐스터네츠의 효과 등을 사용함으로써 스페인의 정서를 잘 표현하였다.; The musical trends in the late nineteenth century are summarized into the three concepts which are nationalism, late romanticism, and impressionism. Composers of this period had tried to find new musical ways of expression. Claude Achille Debussy is the most innovative composer among them. By the influence of paintings from impressionism and literatures from symbolism, he created and completed the styles of impressionism in music. To represent his impressionistic techniques, he reflected a lot of elements of folk music in his works. 「Estampes」has a strong influence from Gamelan music of Indonesia and Flamenco which is a category under Spanish folk music.「Estampes」is a suite which consists of three pieces. The first piece「Pagodes」was composed after listening to the Gamelan music of Indonesia at the International Exposition in Paris in 1889. The second piece 「La Soiree dans Grenade」is recognized as the greatest work by expressing Spanish mood. The third piece 「Jardins Sous La Pluie」was written under two French children's songs. This thesis examines with the first and second pieces which reveal the elements of folk music profoundly. 「Pagodes」 was composed on the basis of pentatonic scales that have a same structure as the Gamelan's two scales. It describes Gamelan's instrument to express oriental atmosphere. In「La Soiree dans Grenade」, Debussy employed Arabic scale, church modes, Habanera rhythm, and guitars and castanets effects to represent Spanish mood. 「Estampes」is a masterpiece that expresses folk musical elements of Indonesia and Spain.
