서울‧수도권 지하철 노선도 디자인의 지각된 용이성 분석

Abstract

범 세계적 고령화와 유래없이 급속하게 진행되고 있는 우리나라의 고령화 추세는 신체기능약화, 손상 가능성을 증가시킴으로써 고령인구 시장에 대한 적극적 대응의 필요성과 일상생활환경 개선을 위한 논의의 필요성을 시사한다. 하지만 현실적 필요성과 윤리적 올바름에도 불구하고, 상대적으로 낮은 경제적 이윤환원율과 관련 지식 및 도구의 부족(또는 부재)으로 인해 기업과 디자이너의 부담이 지속되고 있다. 따라서 이 같은 상황적 제약을 고려할 때, 신체기능약자를 위한 상품, 환경구축은 공공성이 중시되는, 공공영역에 대한 우선적 모색이 효과적일 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 고령자의 사회참여와 밀접한 관계가 있는 대표적 대중교통서비스인 지하철의 노선도에 대한 시각 및 인지기능 요구수준의 용이성을 알아보고자 했다. 이에 대구ㆍ경북지역에 거주하는 일반고령자와 청장년전문가들을 대상으로 지하철노선도 사용 실험을 동반한 설문조사를 실시했다. 연구 결과, 우선 시각기능에 대한 요구수준의 경우, 일반고령집단과 청장년전문가집단 간 의견의 차이는 없었으나 인지기능의 경우 그 차이가 나타났다. 이것은 일반고령자들이 청장년전문가들보다 서울ㆍ수도권지하철노선도의 사용에 있어서 인지적 능력을 요구하는 정보획득에 더 많은 어려움을 경험하고 있는 것을 의미하는 것으로 인지적 문제 개선에 우선적 해결을 통해 고령 사용자의 사용용이성 수준을 보다 효과적으로 대응할 필요성이 있음을 말해주는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이상의 연구결과에도 불구하고, 본 연구는 시간적, 재정적 비용 및 고령 참가자에 대한 배려 등의 이유로 설문 및 실험에서 문항의 수, 실험 시간 등에서 제한점을 갖는 한계를 갖는다. 향후, 피실험자의 주관적 의견이 아닌, 신체ㆍ생리적 반응의 기계적 측정 결과를 반영함으로써 더 높은 객관성을 확보와 연구결과를 반영한 노선도디자인에 대한 평가를 실시함으로써 실증적으로 검토할 필요가 있다. As global and domestic population are aging, a growing number of impaired people including the elderly asks for more active measures and efforts to improve everyday environment where they are surrounded and situated. Despite practical and ethical necessity, lack of commercial benefits of and appropriate tools to design products for the impaired have stopped designers and companies from creating more accessible environment. Considering these conditions, public service related products placing public interest and public influence first can be an effective start point. Thus this study attempted to see levels of perceived easiness of the Seoul metropolitan subway map in terms of visual and cognitive functions. To achieve the goal, this study adopted survey accompanying use tests of the map with elder users and young professional users who live in Daegu Gyeongbuk region and thus were unfamiliar with themap. The result shows that perceived easiness of young professional user group is higher than elder user group in aspect of cognitive function which is necessary for obtaining information from the map. It means that comparing young professional users, elder users experience greater cognitive difficulties and indicates considering aging population, improvement of cognitive errors, rather than visual problems, seems to be worthwhile. In spite of the findings stated above, this study had some limitations as follows; though this study had large sample over 30 participants, with limited research resources andweak health conditions of the elderly, limited number of participants and questions were allowed. To get solider foundation, through future study, it appears effective to examine a re-designed map reflecting results of this study and integrated results of other approaches like physiological ormechanicalmeasure.
