Abstract
As urbanization advances, impermeable surfaces have increased, which has caused more rainfall runoff than before (natural surfaces), and more discharge in channels. Naturally, therefore, people are more interested in eco-friendly riverside detention facilities that can lower damage due to flooding. In order to conduct quantitative analysis on the flood control effects of riverside detention basins, the applicability of the plausible commercial model FLUMEN is examined in this study through unsteady flow experiments and analyzed actual flood reduction effects in a riverside detention basin located at Yeoju City with FLUMEN. By comparing the numerical results of FLUMEN with available existing data, the model is proved to provide reasonable predictions. By employing FLUMEN, the flood control effects of the Yeoju detention basin and an existing flood reduction facility were tested with scenarios based on flood frequencies. After predicting water stages at the target areas, a maximum 0.08m of water level reduction for 100-year frequency, 0.16m for 150-year frequency and 0.27m for 200-year frequency were confirmed.
