소리 풍경 다시 듣기:“복합 청각주의”의 실현 가능성 연구

Abstract

음악학계 안팎에서 소리 풍경에 대한 관심이 일어남에 따라 소리 풍경을 체험시키는 소리 교육이 다양한 수준의 음악 교육의 장에서 대안적인 방법으로 주목되고 있다. 그러면서 소리 청취 교육에 총체적으로 필요한 철학과 그 실현 가능성에 대한 연구가 요청되고 있다. 그러나 이 주제에 대한 연구는 소리 연구의 세부 분야에 비해 상대적으로 덜 진행되어 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 점을 고려하여 잠재적인 21세기 소리 청취 교육관의 하나로서 “복합 청각주의”를 제시하고, 인천 공항 소리 환경 체험의 사례 연구를 통해 그 실현 가능성을 알아보고자 한다. 복합 청각주의는 청각 중심적 사고의 실현이라는 현대 소리 교육의 목표에 부합하는 소리 청취 교육관이다. 이 관점은 참여자가 오늘날의 이중적인 소리, 환경, 공간적 양상에 “동시 듣기”로 부응하도록 해 이들을 현대 소리 환경의 주체로 이끌어야 한다는 입장이다. 복합 청각적 사고는 동시 듣기의 형태에 따라 크게 세 가지, 요소적, 층위적, 방향적 청취관으로 구분된다. 인천 공항의 사례 연구는 참여자들이 이러한 청취의 가능성을 어느 정도 보여줌으로써, 복합 청각주의가 소리 교육 현장에서 순조롭게 적용될 수 있는 잠재성의 일단을 선보인다.Sound education, which allows participants to experience their surrounding sound environment, is drawing attention as an alternative approach in the area of music education at various levels, according to the mounting interest in “soundscape” from around the circle of musicology. This situation requires a comprehensive educational philosophy for listening to contemporary soundscape and its practicality. Yet existing studies has paid limited attention to this topic. In this regard, this paper aims to present what I call “compound auditorism” as one possible philosophy for contemporary sound listening education, and explore its feasibility, based on a case study of the soundscape of Incheon International Airport. Compound auditorism is a view that has a potential to meets the aim of contemporary sound listening education to realize a hearing-centric thought. The perspective emphasizes on leading participants to become subjects of the contemporary society. It is by helping them to respond to today’s compound sounds, environments, spaces through “simultaneous listening”. Compound auditorism is divided into three views based on “componential listening”, “stratal listening”, and “directional listening”, according to the types of listening. A case study offers one aspect of a potentiality for compound auditorism to be applied smoothly to the arena of sound education, by raising a possibility for participants to conduct three types of listening to some extent.
