Short- and Long-term Performance of Chinese Overseas Listed Companies

Abstract

본 논문은 2006년부터 2016년까지 NASDAQ, NYSE, HKEX에서 중국 해외 상장기업의 장단기 성과를 연구했다. 본 논문은 나스닥 49 개사, 뉴욕증권거래소 28 개사, 홍콩 거래소 128 개사의 주가 실적을 조사하기 위해 t 테스트를 실시했다. 본 연구에서는, 단기적으로 모든 해외 상장기업은 IPO 저가 발행 현상이 유의미한 결과를 발견했고, 또한 장기적으로 유의미한 장기적 저성과 현상이 2~3년 동안 주식을 보유할 때만 발생한다는 결과를 발견했다. 더욱이 3개 거래소의 주식 성과를 비교한 점에서는 나스닥 기업들은 8.2%의 단기 최대 평균수익률을 달성했고, 홍콩거래소 기업들은 2위를 차지했으며, 뉴욕거래소 기업들은 2.81%에 그쳐 단기 평균수익률이 가장 낮았다. 장기적으로는 홍콩 증건거래소 기업들은 가장 좋은 성과를 낸 반면 뉴욕거래소 기업들은 2위를 차지했으며, 나스닥 기업들은 가장 나쁜 성과를 냈다.; The paper documents the short- and long-term performance of Chinese overseas listed companies on the NASDAQ, NYSE, and HKEX from 2006 to 2016. The study conducts a t-test to investigate the stock performance of 49 NASDAQ companies, 28 NYSE companies, and 128 HKEX companies. In this study, significant first-day underpricing was found in the full sample of Chinese initial public offerings on the three stock exchanges, and significant long-term underperformance relative to the benchmark was found on the second and third IPO anniversary. Moreover, in the short run, IPOs on the NASDAQ achieved the highest average returns of 8.2%, IPOs on the HKEX ranked second, and IPOs on the NYSE got the lowest average returns with only 2.81%. However, in the long run, IPOs on the HKEX performed the best, followed by NYSE, and NASDAQ performed the worst.
