Abstract
The current study compares on-engine NVH performance with measurement results from a cold-air driven turbine test rig for automotive turbochargers. A tri-axle accelerometer measures the bearing housing accelerations. Engine-induced housing excitations introduce multiple low frequency subsynchronous vibrations while the cold-air driven turbine tests mainly shows subsynchronous responses related to the bearing whirl instability.
