Abstract
The present study describes incorrect output signals of an infrared tachometer due to diffuse reflection around measurement surfaces. The infrared speed sensor with an invisible infrared light source uses impulse turbine blades (25 mm diameter) as a target surface. Since the sensor, which is very sensitive to lighting, is installed in the enclosure with a very narrow area, the reflected infrared near the target surfaces read incorrect speed signals due to diffuse reflection. This reflection of light from a non-target surface is eliminated by attachment of papers inside the test rig enclosure surfaces.
