- Abstract
- In automotive industry, traditional manual actuating mechanisms have been replaced with motor actuators to enhance product value by improving convenience and safety. In this study, we performed design optimization of a motor actuator for a hydraulic brake booster to minimize motor actuator response time. The motor actuator for a vehicle hydraulic booster should be small for fitting it in the engine room, able to make enough hydraulic pressure, and especially fast enough to stop a vehicle in a short time in emergency situation. A commercial dynamics FEA software and a commercial electro-magnetic FEA software were employed to evaluate the actuator response time, and the simulation results were validated by comparing them with test results. We adopted a surrogate-based design optimization (SBDO) approach because one simulation time took quite long. We performed SBDO using a commercial process integration and design optimization (PIDO) software, “PIAnO”, and successfully obtained an improved actuator design compared to an initial design.
