- Abstract
- The analysis of indoor circulation, closely associated with spatial allocation issues plays an important role to plan overall quality of building design in the beginning of the design. Therefore, diverse requirements such as design purposes, building usage and residents’ characteristics are needed to be considered and checked for a feedback to the design.
In this research, we demonstrated analyzing walkability of indoor circulation between design alternatives using BIM-enabled quantitative index through an actual case of remodeling project. For analyzing walkability of indoor circulation, following steps are required; 1) determination of design requirements in a quantitative way, 2) modeling a given building model and acquisition of related data, 3) calculation BIM-enabled indoor walkability indices and analysis between design alternatives. The demonstration results suggested that quantity-based analysis between design alternatives using BIM-enabled quantitative index can be objective references to support design-decision making process. Based on the result of this research, we will further develop BIM-enabled analysis approach to reviewing indoor walkability.
